I posted a few weeks ago about the weird problem with my big scooter. When I hook the battery up, the headlights go on even with he key off. All the other electrics are dead, key on or off. Several people thought the ignition switch had gone bad. Well, I just paid the $80 price for throwing parts at a problem, because yesterday I installed a new one ... and the same problems persist.

FUUUUUUUUUUUDGE!

The lighting control module is the one other part failure it could be. Unless it’s some random dead short.

Damnit! I just wanna ride!

Update:

I put the battery in backwards. Time to ride and try to forget how stupid I am.

lighting control module

It annoys me that this is even a thing. Just give me a simple circuit with a switch!

For the love of God, why does everything need a friggin’ control module?! It’s 12 volts, a ground and a light bulb!

What makes it even better, is that it’s only mentioned in the wiring diagram. There’s nothing in the actual service manual about it. I have no idea where the thing is physically located, and I only have a schematic drawing from the parts ordering website that makes it look more or less light a relay to go off of.

Re: Update

D’oh. It happens to the best of us. Don’t worry, I once made a big, long forum post about tracking down a missfire after cleaning the throttle body. Turns out I just swapped three plug wires around.

Woo-hoo! Glad you figured out how stupid you are . . . um, I mean, glad that you determined the problem and are able to ride.

Seeing so many nice, or interesting, or nice and interesting motorcycles this weekend (along with many cars) made me want to ride again. Except for the intense heat and humidity, which made me glad to be driving in my air conditioned cage.

lol..... couple days ago i had my rear wheel straightened went for a ride when i got it back and noticed a horrible noise coming from the wheel...

obviously took it straight back to the shop being all like... i had my wheel fixed yesterday...but i think its dead now!

dude gave the wheel a spin...loosened the wheel made i tiny adjustment to how it was sitting fastened it again and handed it back to me...

it was just the brake disc rubbing against the pads (something i absolutely would have checked had i not just got it back from the shop and jumped to conclusions)

ashamed of meself

You have a complex problem. The solution is right in front of you, but you never notice it until you try that simple thing, because “it could never be that!”
Turns out it is, and you’ve wasted time/money/sanity on everything else.

Such is working on mechanical objects designed for physical propulsion.

Lol. Sometimes it’s the loose nut behind the wheel.

Kudos for admitting that. Have a fun ride .

I actually had to have a friend come over to tell me how big of an idiot I am :)

Its a gorgeous day here, but when it’s too hot or cold, I’ll take the cage as well.

I have to admit, I didn’t even think of the simple solution. I needed a friend to come over and hit me upside the head!

I made a similar post a while back where I tried to figure out what the problem with my car not starting was.
Shifting it to neutral and then back to park let me start, because I didn’t manage to fully put it into park according to my car, even though the pawl was engaged.

Whoops!

The RallyMetro was intermittently not starting. It took me a while to figure out you had to push the clutch down really hard to activate that switch, then it would always start.
